1/8/1942 We used our influence called in a few favours, and command agreed to a wolfpack assignment in the Atlantic. We sailed from St. Nazaire with a new crewmembers. It feels unusual not to have Pfefferberg aboard. Lindner will have to work hard to earn his place. In
The Hunters
1/6/1942 We tried to lobby for another assignment to the North American coast. The request was refused and we were instead sent to the Atlantic. We sailed from St. Nazaire. The Bay of Biscay outbound area and the first transit were quiet, as were the first two Atlantic
The Hunters
1/4/1942 Assigned once more to North America. We sailed from St. Nazaire. The Bay of Biscay outbound was quiet. In the first transit an aircraft appeared. We did not wait to identify it and fortunately an emergency dive put us under in time. The remaining two transit sectors

1/1/1942 With the outbreak of war against the United States, command advised that a substantial portion of our operational effort would now be directed against the Eastern Seaboard. 1/9/1940 BdU has informed us that progress is being made on the G7E torpedoes and that we can expect greater reliability from them in future. Command is, for once, appreciative of our efforts given the chronic lack of reliability we have all endured. With that more favourable sentiment
The Hunters
1/7/1940 We sailed from Wilhelmshaven bound for the Atlantic, our first true deep-water assignment since the shift in the war’s geography. In the first transit we were jumped by a Catalina. Odd to see a flying boat that close to German waters. We got under in
